These are the opening remarks given at the convocation meeting of Anonymous Nigeria on Friday - January 6, 2012.
Greetings everyone and thank you for coming. Welcome to the official convocation of the newest national cell in Anonymous. Today the noble people of Nigeria take their rightful place in one of the most powerful ideas and movements in history. It is my privilege and honor to be here tonight to witness the birth of Anonymous Nigeria.
To the Nigerians. Know that you are not alone. Nearly 50 nations of the world also have national Anonymous cells. From Anonymous USA to Anonymous Syria, dozens of national cells have evolved over the past year. And there are actually representatives of the last two groups I mentioned here tonight, as volunteers to help and guide you in whatever you might need to get started.
Always remember that while your first responsibility is to your own beautiful Nigerian people, you also have a responsibility to the rest of us - to the Global Anonymous. Bear in mind always that 100 of your brother and sister Anons were arrested across Europe and the USA last year. Dozens were charged and stand indicted in those raids, and more than a few Anons are fugitives from justice - hiding in our underground railroad and at our Anonymous safe houses. A dozen of your fellow national cells have street revolutions of their own either on going or in the planning stages. While you must watch after Nigeria, you must also grow strong and give back by finding creative ways to assist the global effort for freedom and Anonymous as a whole. We are a family, we look after our own - we help eachother stay strong.
The core principle of Anonymous is a contradiction of sorts. Total and absolute personal anonymity, and complete and utter organizational transparency. But this is not actually a contradiction. One actually enables the other. By tending to our personal anonymity and making that bullet proof, we enable ourselves to safely open up our actions to the scrutiny of the world and history. It allows us to act as one and be accountable as one, while keeping us all safe from the oppressors. It is essential.
Anonymous is also a sub-culture, and the idea of personal anonymity is visceral. It is not just a philosophy, but becomes who you are and burns itself into your spirit. A true Anon has burned from himself all curiousity about his fellow Anon. Lose your desire to spy on your fellows, tear from yourselves the part of your nature that makes you want to know who the people you meet in Anonymous really are. Because this IS who we really are. Become an Anon in your mind and your heart, and never try and unmask your comrade. Don't ask leading or inquisitive questions of eachother. And know that those who DO are probably cops.
Always remember and never forget, because the Global Anonymous WILL hold you; Anonymous Nigeria - accountable to these three basic tenets.
1) NEVER attack the media. (Mainstream, Independent - or Social)
2) NEVER attack the infrastructure. (Such as dams or hospitals)
3) ALWAYS work for Freedom and Justice, and especially as it relates to the Internet.
The highest priority for Anonymous is the defense of the Internet. Thank you for listening (reading), and welcome again Anonymous Nigeria. The rest of this meeting is about you and your needs. We have brought together some of the brightest and bravest Anons and PLFers to be here today to assist you in your many needs getting started and moving forward. I would like to open up the discussion now, and lets stay focused on what we can do for you. We can also break off into working groups in side channles and PM.
